BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The intention of holding the Tahlil ceremonies is to seek Allah the Almighty's blessings and forgiveness for the departed souls.  This was the highlight of the Khutbah or Friday sermon today.  In the sermon, the Imam or prayer leader also reminded the ummah that the Tahlil should be conducted according to religious guidelines and should not be made compulsory, especially by serving many dishes during the ceremony.

The Imam said the departed souls can still receive blessings by virtue of prayers and other religious acts performed or offered by their families and other Muslims.  Hence, Islam encourages the ummah, especially the children and close relatives of the departed to read Al-Quran, supplicate and recite other zikir or prayers in the name of Allah and pray that the souls of their relatives are blessed by Allah the Almighty.  The supplications should focus on peace and calmness for the deceased.   According to the Imam or prayer leaders other deeds should also be performed so that the departed souls are always blessed and forgiven by Allah the Almighty.
