His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his titah expressed Brunei's commitment in maintaining regional peace and stability. His Majesty also said that Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines work closely in realising ASEAN's vision of a community. The Monarch made the titah last night at a State Banquet held in honour of His Majesty's state visit to the Republic of the Philippines. The State Banquet was held at the Malacañan palace and was hosted by His Excellency Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Republic of the Philippines. His Majesty in his titah acknowledged the role of the 23,000 Filipino nationals working in Brunei Darussalam in making significant contributions to Brunei Darussalam's socio-economic development. His Majesty expressed confidence that economic ties between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines will continue to progress to create a more conducive environment for business people to network and collaborate in areas such as halal and agro-based industries.
Upon arrival at Rizal Hall, Malacanan Palace, His Majesty was welcomed by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Philippines and Madame Cielito Avanceña. The President of the Republic of the Philippines, in his speech said he appreciated Brunei Darussalam as the most important friend towards peace and prosperity. His Excellency Rodrigo Duterte hoped the peace and prosperity achieved would further develop in the interest of the peoples of both countries and the region.
His Majesty, in a titah, said Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines enjoy long-standing relations, especially with strong people-to-people links. The monarch in a titah expressed happiness on enhancing ties with great cultural corporation between both countries, which will promote the richness and diversity of arts and culture in the two countries.
His Majesty will attend the 30th ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Manila, today. His Majesty's state visit is on the invitation of the President of the Republic of the Philippines. In a joint statement, the leaders noted ASEAN's achievements over the past fifty years, emerging as an important regional association, underscored their commitment to work closely with other ASEAN member states in advancing ASEAN's community building process and upholding peace, stability and prosperity in the region. His Majesty and the President of the Republic of the Philippines also reiterated the importance of strengthening cooperation in the sectors of labour, food security, agriculture, education, and finance, and expressed the hope for both sides to finalise documents in these matters to further enhance bilateral relations between both countries.
