BRUNEI-MUARA

As part of the school's commitment to sustainability, the Seri Mulia Sarjana International School (SMSIS) celebrated Earth Day yesterday with the theme 'Trees for the Earth'. The event focussed on the importance of taking care of our Earth, a press release stated.

With the alarming rate of losing 15 billion trees per year, students from the lower and upper primary planted seeds which they placed on recycled plastic cups and water bottles. A parade was held in the courtyard where children put their plants together to form a figure of tree.

This is to commemorate the relevance of these living things that provide the oxygen that we breathe, the food that we eat, and materials that are very much important in our daily lives.

Moreover, there were messages from kindergarten and primary kids that aim to send well wishes to our planet earth.

These kind words were posted on the Earth Day wall to showcase the children's awareness of the worrying result of climate change and their call for action to battle the terrifying effects of global warming.

To further help the earth to regain its wellbeing, a 30-minute power shut down was done on the same day. This is to lessen the carbon footprint coming from the different gadgets and appliances that are being used in school. This practice was also done in the students' homes and the kids were encouraged to talk about the undesirable effects of greenhouse gases to their families.

With the support of the students, parents, teachers, and staff, the celebration of Earth Day was a success. With this, SMSIS was able to prove once again that a collection of small efforts can form an impact to help save our Mother Earth.

The outdoor activities while doing something good for the environment made the school more sustainable.

As global citizens, the students commit themselves to continue in helping keep the earth clean and green.
