Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and his six-year-old granddaughter Nazya Badea stole the show when they sang to raise RM112,000 to build a new facility for Sri Satok Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) on Friday night.

They performed in front of a large audience at the inaugural People with Disabilities (OKU) ‘We Can Do It’ charity concert held at the old Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building in Petra Jaya here.

Among the distinguished guests were the chief minister’s wife who is Sri Satok PDK patron, Datin Amar Jumaani Tuanku Bujang; Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah; Assistant Early Childhood Education and Family Development Minister Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed and heads of various departments.

During the event organised by Petra Jaya Welfare Association, children of the centre and trainees accompanied by their teachers presented heartwarming and meaningful performances.

In December last year, the government approved a RM500,000 budget for the project with a piece of land near Kampung Patingan within Satok constituency identified for it.

Currently, Sri Satok PDK is operating at a rented building at Jalan Dagok/ Jalan Muda Hashim and provides education, coaching and training to 42 trainees.

With a new and better facility, Sri Satok PDK believe they can do more to help people with special needs have a better future.

Among the donors were Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Sharifah Hasidah, Fatimah, KKB Engineering managing director Datuk Kho Kak Beng, property developer Dato William Wei and several other corporations.
