Lawmakers at their ongoing 3rd Ordinary Session on Wednesday approved amendments to the Law on the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union’s (LPRYU) Executive Committee.
The amendments were presented at the meeting by Secretary General of Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union, Mr Sonethanou Thammavong before they were approved by the majority of the lawmakers.
The Law on the LPRYU’s Executive Committee was adopted in 2009. It then comprised 11 parts and 55 articles. At the ongoing session, it was amended to 11 parts and 58 articles.
“The amended articles would ensure the content of law is realistic to the performance of the LPRYU Executive Committee over years to come,” said Mr Sonethanou. “The terms used in this law on the LPRYU Executive Committee are more precise and clearer and will ensure that the role and responsibility of the committee are better promoted and the accountability of the government, society, families, individuals and legal entities to the LPRYU Executive Committee will be improved.”
The LPRYU is a mass organisation with direct influence to organize and lead all youth related activities, and is the representative of the legitimate rights and interests of the Lao multi-ethnic youth. It membership has a 96 percent share of students at primary and secondary schools across the country.
Rules and regulations in various platforms have been established for youth members in an effort to protect their legitimate rights and interests.
The LPRYU Executive Committee plays a key role in educating the multi-ethnic Lao youth across the country, and encouraging unity and solidarity among them.
