The construction of Trusan dam in Lawas District and Medamit dam in Limbang District is to generate power to drive economic activities and to meet the needs of the rural population besides earning revenue from electricity and water resources.

Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said this after a briefing on Limbang Division development by Resident Datu Maria Hasman at Purnama Hotel here yesterday.

Accompanying him were Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Gani, Assistant Minister of Welfare and Community Wellbeing Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Limbang MP Hasbi Habibolah and Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang.

On the briefing, the Chief Minister said it was to enable him to know in detail each location in the state and their peculiarities so that a holistic development approach can be undertaken without being hindered by red tape.

The briefing also touched on the vision and mission of the division to become the state’s premier buffalo meat producing hub and an eco-tourism hub in northern Sarawak by 2030.

The briefing also outlined the short, medium and long term plans for the division.

Abang Johari stressed on the importance for all government departments and agencies tasked with implementation of projects to work together to ensure the projects are completed on time and meet their objectives.

He agreed with the suggestion by Awang Tengah that water from the dams in the state should be supplied as treated water to domestic consumers to overcome the lack of clean water.
