PETALING JAYA

The highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagship smartphones will go on sale nationwide at 10am today.

Samsung Malaysia Electronics IT & Mobile Business vice-president Lee Jui Siang said the S8 and S8+ received four times the number of pre-orders compared to last year’s Galaxy S7 Edge.

“We firmly believe that meaningful progress can only happen when you dare to defy barriers.

“And the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are true representations of our technology prowess, and fine examples of how we push boundaries,” Lee said during the official launch at Sunway Pyramid yesterday.

Those who pre-ordered the phones were able to collect their devices at designated collection points yesterday.

The phones come with Infinity Display – a bezel-less dual-edge display that takes up more than 80% of the phone’s front screen. The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8in display while the S8+ comes with a 6.2in screen.

There are multiple options for securing the smartphone. Other than the fingerprint sensor and iris scanner, it also boasts facial recognition.

Both phones come with a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel camera and 8-megapixel front-facing smart autofocus camera.

Lee also introduced Samsung’s new Gear VR with Controller (RM499) that gives users a full virtual reality experience; Gear 360 camera (RM999) that allows users to take 360° photos and videos; and DeX (RM459), its latest innovation that lets users use their Galaxy S8 and S8+ as desktop computers.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are priced at RM3,299 and RM3,699, respectively, and are available in Midnight Black, Orchid Grey and Maple Gold colours.

Samsung is organising roadshows at Sunway Pyramid, Queensbay Mall in Penang and Sutera Mall in Johor until Sunday.

Every Galaxy S8 or S8+ purchase at the roadshows comes with a Limited Edition Starter Kit that includes a clear cover, screen protector, wireless charger stand, USB Type-C cable and compact 5,100mAh battery pack.

Buyers will also be entitled to 50% discount for the Gear VR and Gear 360.

Customers who purchase the S8 or S8+ at any of the 76 Samsung Experience Stores nationwide will receive a compact 5,100mAh battery pack worth RM269.

Each redemption is on a first come, first served basis.
