The special allocation of RM53 million from the State Government under the 2017 State Budget to eight ministries and departments will be increased in the future if it is well implemented.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman said this yesterday during the handing over of RM20 million allocation to various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) under the Ministry of Community Development and Consumer Affairs.
He said the allocation will benefit all segments of the community and groups of people, from the youths to women, entrepreneurs and NGOs up to the elderly, from high impact economic activities to grassroot social programmes if it brings success to the target groups.
“We want to continue this programme because I believe it will help those who are in need, for example NGOs under the Ministry of Community Development and Consumer Affairs. These groups have been working voluntarily to help the community and the government understands their funding constraints.
“This is also a responsibility by the government to channel allocation to the needy,” he added.
Musa also said that the allocation is yet another proof that the government always puts the people as priority and hoped that all planned programmes will be fruitful.
During the event which was held at Hilton Kota Kinabalu, more than 40 associations, NGOs and welfare homes received the RM20 million allocation.
Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid said RM5 million will be channelled to the Women’s Affairs Department while RM10 million will be given to the Welfare Department and another RM5 million for the Sabah Women’s Advisory Council.
“The special allocation is aimed to empower and improve the social welfare of 4,504 registered single mothers in Sabah, 26,612 people with disabilities and 28,489 registered senior citizens,” she said.
