MANILA, PHILIPPINES
President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia at around 5:49 p.m. (Cambodia time) and was welcomed by His Excellency Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information and Minister in Attendance; and His Excellency Sieng Bunvuth, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Duterte is set to attend two sessions with top international business leaders and company chief executive officers (CEOs) during his two-day official visit for the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Phnom Penh.
According to Foreign Affairs undersecretary for international economic relations Manuel Teehankee, Duterte will be given an hour from 12 p.m. (Cambodia time) on Thursday to promote his administration’s ambitious “Build, Build, Build!” project.
During the given time frame, arranged by WEF organizers for Duterte for being chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, the President will court top business leaders for the massive infrastructure program as the government plays “catch-up” with other major economies in the region.
“He will then be meeting with the top business leaders in one session as well as with the top 50 CEOs in another session,” Teehankee said in an interview with the members of the Philippine media at the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh.
“It will be the first launch internationally of the Build, Build, Build program,” he added.
Backing Duterte in his aim to promote his administration’s infrastructure program are Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Trade and Industry Secretary Mon Lopez, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) director-general Ernesto Pernia and Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Vince Dizon.
Duterte’s “Build, Build, Build!” Program will require some P8 trillion in infrastructure spending, mostly to be sourced from the national budget and foreign investors
