BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

 

Three men - two local and one Malaysian national - have been brought before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court for offences under the Excise Order and Customs Order.

 

24-year-old Nur Syafiq Iskandar bin Suhaili, a Brunei citizen, was arrested in a raid at a house in the Bukit Sibanging Land Scheme for Indigenous Citizens, in Tanah Jambu on the 6th of May. During the raid, the accused was found having in his possession 1 thousand 194 packets of cigarettes of various types and 10 kilograms of chicken wings. The accused pleaded guilty. He was imposed 2 fines - 11 thousand dollars or 6 months imprisonment, and 1 thousand dollars or 1 month imprisonment if he fails to pay the fines. The accused is given until the 31st of December 2017 to settle the fines.

 

Meanwhile, Joshua Ignatius Rabong Anak Siam, a Malaysian citizen, has been found guilty of possessing 6 cartons of cigarettes of various brands. The accused has been fined 3 thousand 500 dollars or 2 months imprisonment in default. He is given a grace period of until the 31st of August 2017 to settle the fine.

 

Another local, Ulin Anak Tawi, aged 66, has been found guilty of possessing 15 cans and 8 bottles of alcoholic drinks of various types during an inspection at the Kuala Lurah Control Post. The accused pleaded guilty and was fined 1 thousand dollars or sentenced to 1 month imprisonment in default. He is given a period until 31st August 2017 to settle the fine. All the goods involved in the 3 cases were seized to be destroyed and the vehicle returned.
