Hap Seng continues with its commitment to celebrate the state’s festivities with a Kaamatan event at Plaza Shell on May 20.

Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad East Malaysia deputy regional director Joanne Wendy Chung said one of the two main events scheduled on that day would be the Mini Harvest Princess Contest for girls aged six to 12.

“The response has been overwhelming. Within a day of broadcasting the competition, 30 participants immediately came forth. There are still so many more requesting to participate but we do not have anymore spots left,” revealed Chung.

Over RM3,000 worth of cash and other prizes are up for grabs for winners of the contest. A special category for Best Costume has also been organized for the event.

“The other event would be the ‘butod’ (sago worm) eating competition. The person who eats these raw, uncooked worms the fastest will get the cash prizes lined up for that day,” she added.

In addition, cultural performances such as Sumazau and Magunatip will also be featured on that day.

“After our Harvest event we will be having our Raya event; the dates have yet to confirmed but that would come soon. Basically, we want to celebrate all the festive seasons celebrated in Sabah,” said Chung.

Chung also revealed that Plaza Shell, officially launched in November 2015, is also expecting its tenant Gaya Seafood Restaurant to open for business next month.
