It’s not just humans who are full of despair at the moment – and this seal proves it.

The marine mammal face-palmed when a photographer pointed the lens at him, possibly thinking about Brexit, Donald Trump, or the upcoming General Election.

Either that, or he was just a bit camera shy.

Roger Coan, from Northumberland, was on a boat in the Farne Islands when he spotted a colony of seals on Thursday.

He said: ‘He definitely didn’t want his picture taken – as soon as he saw my camera he lifted up his flipper and covered his face.
