JOHOR BARU

The body of Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi (pic), the boy who died after being allegedly abused at a religious school here, has been exhumed for further investigation.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Ashmon Bajah confirmed that the exhumation was carried out under Section 355 of the Criminal Procedure Code at the Felda Bukit Aping Timur Muslim cemetery in Kota Tinggi at around 3pm on Thursday.

He refused to elaborate further as the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the victim's mother Felda Wani Ahmad had also confirmed that her son's body was exhumed in a statement posted on her Facebook page.

"I hope the public will not speculate on the matter and respect our family's feelings," she said.

It was reported that Mohamad Thaqif, 11, had died after both his legs were amputated due to an infection following an alleged abuse by an assistant warden at the Madrasah Tahfiz Al Jauhar school.

The suspect, a 29-year-old man, had a previous criminal record for theft and had served 30 months in jail. The school hired him in 2016.
