Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of The Royal Armed Forces (RBAF), attended the 14th Asean Chiefs of Defence Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM).
Themed ‘Asean Chiefs of Defence: Partnering for Change and Collaborative Engagement’, the conference was helf in Manila, Philippines from May 17-19.
During the meeting, the Asean Chief of Defence Forces agreed to enhance their cooperation through confidence building initiatives and practical cooperation activities such as organizing meetings, exchanges and exercises as agreed upon in the Asean Militaries Two Year Activity Work Plan (2017-2019).
Operations and intelligence meetings, security issues of mutual concerns, maritime security, humanitarian assistance, disaster response and counter-terrorism were also discussed during the meeting.
Prior to the ACDFIM, the 7th Asean Military Operations Informal Meeting (AMOIM) and 14th Asean Military Intelligence Informal Meeting (AMIIM) were also held on May 16. Representing the RBAF were Joint Forces Commander and the Director of Intelligence respectively.
At AMOIM, the Asean Heads of Military Operations continued to pursue the voluntary Two-Year Activity Work Plan (2017-2019) as a guideline for multilateral activities of Asean militaries. Meanwhile, AMIIM continued its progress in furthering the potentials of an Asean-centric network, promoting intelligence exchanges and interactions between the Asean military intelligence communities.
