(KPL) Representatives from the National University of Laos and the University of Health Sciences have joined more than 670 academics from all around the world in attending the 17th General Assembly of the member-institutions of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) held in Marrakech on May 10-12, and electing AUF’s new President.
Education Officer of Bucharest’s University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Sorin Mihai Cîmpeanu has been elected as the new President of AUF.
This meeting has enabled AUF’s members to adopt the new strategy of the Agency, hereby affirming their trust in the goals that have been set and the timeline suggested in order to achieve them.
In the next four years, the AUF aims to have built the “New French Speaking Academic Environment”.
The implementation of this strategy will enable the AUF to take up three main challenges that Universities nowadays have to face. These were the main topics of the three panel discussions organised during the General Assembly: quality of training and research; employability of graduates; and universities’ role in global and local development.
As AUF Education Officer, Jean-Paul de Gaudemar said that by the end of the scientific reflection day, a clear consensus had been come to from the Assembly on the question of the societal mission of universities.
The main projects for the Agency – IDNEUF, the atlas for the French speaking expertise and the index for French quotes – have been presented during the General Assembly and their introduction was met with enthusiasm from the participants who expressed their wish to see these tools implemented and developed as soon as possible.
This is definitely a “French-speaking academic world showcase solution” that has been supported in Marrakech.
Jean-Paul de Godemar congratulated the new President, saying, “I am sure that we will form an efficient duo”.
In his first speech as the new AUF Present, Mr Sorin Cîmpeanu thanked the members for the trust they showed by electing him. He also expressed his full support of the new strategy of the Agency and his will to work as closely as possible with the Education Officer in order to ensure its implementation.
“I invested myself in this project because I believe in the strength of the AUF’s strategy. It is now important to convince the decision makers of the necessity of the implementation of this plan. I assure you of the full collaboration that I will have with the Education Officer and I thank you for the trust you put in me,” he added.
