It’s pretty tricky to find love in 2017 – even if you’re an adorable penguin.
Spruce is a one-year-old Humboldt penguin who is desperate to find someone – so to help him out, his handlers have created an online dating profile for him on Plenty of Fish.
Spruce spends his days swimming around and eating fish at Weymouth Sea Life Centre in Dorset, but he’s found romance pretty hard to come by.
All the female penguins are partnered up, and as they mate for life, poor Spruce is single.
So with the help of his carer Sarah Everett, he is trying his luck with online dating – and she fittingly chose Plenty of Fish as the app of choice.
Sarah told the Dorset Echo: ‘It would be nice for Spruce to have another single penguin to spend his time with, rather than his keepers.
‘I really want to see Spruce settle down with the right girl and after searches for potential mates at other Sea Life centres proved fruitless I thought it was time to look further afield.’
Seriously, if Spruce can’t get a date, what chance do us humans have?
Advertising him as a ‘single penguin looking for chicks’, the profile lists his likes as ‘seafood and swimming’, and favourite bands as Reel Big Fish and Noah and the Whale.
It also states he is looking for ‘a partner for life who I can make some little chicks with, as I’m a family man at heart’.
