BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

In ensuring the realisation of Wawasan Negara 2035, students need to be equipped with the skills of the 21st Century. The increasingly advanced technology development also requires students to enhance their technology and communication skills more effectively. According to the Minister of Education, the skills will help them acquire wider knowledge that can improve their thinking capability to become more critical, systematic, creative and positive. Speaking at the Outstanding Achiever Awards Ceremony for Government and Non-government Primary and Secondary Educational Institutions yesterday, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman said that with such skills, students would be able to explore and produce something new which are beneficial not only to themselves but also to prepare them to face challenges and needs of the future life, as productive students or citizens.

Yang Berhormat Pehin added that we must move actively in making changes in order to meet such requirements. In this regard, our curriculum education needs to always meet and be aligned with these needs. Yang Berhormat Pehin said that teaching approaches also need to change, adding that Concept-based teaching, Higher Order Thinking Skills and Differentiated Instructions are among the teaching strategies which are in line with the needs to develop 21st century skills, as underlined in the National Education System for the 21st Century.

A total of 887 students received the Outstanding Achievers Awards at various levels, including the Primary School Assessment; Pearson Business and Technology Education Council; Brunei-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level; IGCSE 'A' Level and International Baccalaureate; as well as the Cambridge Excellent Achievement. The awards are a sign of appreciation from the Ministry of Education to the students for their relentless efforts and diligence towards achieving excellence in their respective examinations. Also present was Dotor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education. The award recipients meanwhile shared some of the keys to success.
