Perak’s “most wanted man” has been shot dead by the police after a 4km high-speed chase yesterday evening.

The 40-year-old man, believed to be from Gang 04 as well as the state leader of Gang Pam, was high on the wanted list for robbing heavy vehicles since last year.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the man was driving a white Honda City with a fake number plate at Jalan Air Kuning here.

The car was reported missing in Kuala Lumpur.

The suspect ignored an order to stop which led to a high-speed chase.

“When we overtook him, he crashed into a culvert at Kampung Gajah.

“He immediately came out of his car and fired three shots at the police.

“Police retaliated by shooting twice at his chest, and he died on the spot,” Comm Hasnan told reporters at the crime scene.

Police checked his car and found a gun and three machetes.

“He has seven records – four for robbery, one for murder and two for car theft.

“He was arrested in Simpang Renggam, Johor, twice. He also robbed in Muallim, Tapah and Manjung.”

He said the Perak contingent formed a team to identify criminals responsible for heavy vehicle robbery, as losses worth millions were reported not only in Perak but also several other states in the country.

Comm Hasnan said police here are now looking for six more suspects involved in the heavy vehicle robbery cases in the state.
