To improve in Quran-reading through competitions and the like, the learning of Al-Quran must be through the talaqqi method or under the guidance of a teacher. Speaking at a Ceremony to present the Incentive Scheme for Quran-reading Excellence to Brunei Darussalam's Representative who won in the 59th International Al-Quran Reading and Memorisation in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, the Minister of Religious Affairs also stressed the importance of in-depth understanding and assimilation of Al-Quran knowledge among Muslims in the country. The ceremony took place last night at the Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman added that as from this year, a new condition will be introduced to ensure that new male and female Quran readers get the opportunity to come forward and that limits will be set for winners in terms of age and winning frequency in order to make way for new readers.
The ceremony was highlighted with Quran-reading presentations by Awangku Muhammad Adibul Amin bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki, the National Qari, and Dayang Hajah Siti Noor Dzuhairah binti Haji Awang Damit, the National Qariah, both the first runners-up in the recent International Quran-reading Competition in Kuala Lumpur. The Al-Quran Reading Excellence Incentive Scheme Awards were presented by the Minister of Religious Affairs. The incentives were awarded as an appreciation for the winners' efforts and achievement in raising the country's reputation.
Also present were Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as Awang Haji Harun bin Haji Junid and Awang Roslan bin Haji Tajaah, the Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry.
