His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) has consented for the promotion of His Royal Highness 920 Acting Captain Prince 'Abdul Mateen ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah to Substantive Captain (Udara) in the Royal Brunei Air Force. This promotion took effect on 9 May 2017.
Last year, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces consented to promote and put on the rank insignia of an Acting Captain on His Royal Highness in a ceremony held at the Bolkiah Garrison Officers' Mess on 31 August 2016. The promotion was effective as of 9 May 2016.
His Royal Highness is an outstanding military officer with a career path that began as an Officer Cadet undergoing basic training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) which started on 9 May 2010. He graduated from RMAS as a Second Lieutenant on 15 April 2011. His Royal Highness further progressed up the rank when he was promoted to Substantive Lieutenant on 9 July 2012.
His Royal Highness is pursuing a career as a military pilot and successfully completed a seven-month Elementary Flying Training at Royal Air Force (RAF) Cranwell, United Kingdom on 28 April 2017. His Royal Highness Captain (Udara) Prince 'Abdul Mateen will join the Single Engine Rotary Wing (SERW) Flying Training at RAF Shawbury in the United Kingdom in September 2017 prior to qualifying as a helicopter pilot.
