A seagull’s eyes proved too big for its beak, after it got its head stuck on a whole slice of bread.

The white slice became impaled on the greedy gull’s beak as a group of birds fought over food.

It’s not the first time an overenthusiastic seagull has become the victim of its own lunch.

Only last year, one bird turned bright orange after falling into a vat of chicken tikka masala curry.

And in February another seagull was caught stealing parking tickets from motorists’ windscreens.

Post office driver and photographer Finnur Adresson spotted the bread-loving bird in Akranes, Iceland.

The 46-year-old, who is from Iceland, said: ‘I was visiting the harbour at Akranes when a group of seagulls started fighting over some bread.

‘I was very glad I was in the right place at the right time

‘It was exciting and funny to watch, but I was also very focused.’

But it was the seagull who had the last laugh, as the bird eventually swallowed the entire slice of loaf – whole.

Mr Adresson said: ‘I just hope I can capture something like that again.

‘I’m always trying to take better bird photos.’
