This 30 stone gorilla shows his cheeky side as he pokes his tongue out in front of the camera.

Western lowland gorilla Kiondo was feeling playful as he communicated with animal lovers at a zoo by sticking out his tongue at them.

Cheeky Kiondo, 14, posed for zoo-goer Miriam Haas when she snapped him at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park in Paignton, Devon.

A spokesman for the zoo said their beloved gorilla, who came to them from Stuttgart, Germany, was poking his tongue out as a form of non-verbal communication.

The spokesman said: ‘What exactly is male Western lowland gorilla Kiondo passing comment on? The general election? Sport? Photographers? The weather? Whatever it is, he’s clearly in a rather playful mood.

‘Like humans, gorillas use all their senses to communicate – sight, sound, touch and smell.

‘They grunt, rumble, adopt various body postures and pull faces to indicate mood. And, while Kiondo is using his tongue, this definitely falls into the category of non-verbal communication.’
