PM Slams London Attack

 June 5th, 2017  |  08:55 AM  |   2174 views

KUALA LUMPUR

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has condemned the terror attack in London and offered his support to Britain.

“Devastating terror attack in London. I am shocked and disgusted. Malaysia condemns the heinous acts and we stand with the people of Britain,” he tweeted yesterday.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also expressed his shock and dismay.

“On behalf of the Malaysian people, we condemn and deplore the heinous terror attack at London Bridge and Borough Market.

“It is barely a week after the horrific, brutal and sinister attack at Manchester Arena,” he said.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, said his prayers and thoughts were with the families and friends of the victims.

“Our utmost sympathy to the British people. We are confident the authorities will solve and bring those who are responsible to justice,” he said.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein tweeted: “Our prayers are with everyone in London.”

At least seven members of the public were killed and scores injured after the attack in central London early on Sunday morning, Malaysian time. The three attackers were shot dead by police.

A white van ploughed into people on London Bridge and knife-wielding attackers who emerged from the van ran towards the Borough Market, stabbing people who were enjoying a Saturday night out.

British Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed that the “terrible incident in London” was being treated as “a potential act of terrorism”.

The attack came more than a week after a suicide bomber killed 22 people at a concert in the northern city of Manchester on May 22 and several days ahead of the June 8 election, in which security is a major issue.
