BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A uniformed personnel was yesterday sentenced to eight months' imprisonment after he pleaded guilty in the Bandar Magistrate's Court to stealing BND$16,000 worth of jewelleries from a shop in the capital in broad daylight.

The court was informed by DPP Aiman Zakaria that L/Cpl 19332 Muhammad Zainul Ariffin bin Awang Ahmad went to Teik Goldsmith at Jalan McArthur at 10am on April 16, 2016, talked to the attendants while inspecting jewelleries, and then ran off stealing them.

The defendant then gave the jewelleries to another man to settle his debts. The man, unknowing of the felony, went to Teik Goldsmith to pawn the jewelleries.

The shop attendant recognised the jewelleries and later confirmed with the man that it had been stolen earlier.

The police was alerted and the defendant was caught later that afternoon with the aid of captured CCTV footages.
