His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented the prizes to the winners

The climax of the National Level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration was the presentation of prizes to the winners of the Final of the National Al-Quran Memorisation and Understanding and MABIMS member-level Competition. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented the prizes to the winners.

 

Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin Bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as the Chairman of the Major Islamic Events Celebrations for 1438 Hijrah Executive Committee; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports as Chairman of Board of Directors of Perbadanan TAIB; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, State Mufti; Retired First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Abdul Aziz bin Mohd Tamit, Deputy Minister of Defence and Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and members of the Executive Committee and other Working Committees.

 

Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brother, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik. The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the State Mufti. The Minister of Religious Affairs in his welcoming address among other matters said that since the sixties, the country has celebrated Nuzul Al-Quran as part of historic day's celebration and significant event in Islam.

 

At the ceremony, winners in five categories of the Final of the National Al-Quran Memorisation and Understanding presented their recitations and understanding of Al-Quran. Category 'A' of Memorising and Understanding of Selected Verses from Chapter 30 and its understanding for 11 years and below was won by Dayang Nur Kamaliah bte Hj Jahari. Meanwhile, Awangku Muhammad Fakhrur Razey bin Pengiran Damit won Category 'B' of Memorising and Understanding of Selected Verses for participants aged 17 and below.

 

Dayang Hajah Norhidayatul Mukminah binti Haji Puteh won in Category 'C' of Memorising 3 Chapter of Al-Quran which was open to all age groups. Category 'D', Memorising 15 Chapters of Al-Quran and Understanding of Chapter 11, open to participants of all age groups went to Awang Abdul Aziz bin Noor Nasran. Meanwhile Awang Muhammad Hasbul Wafi bin Haji Ahmad emerged as the champion of the Category 'E' for memorising 30 Chapters of Al-Quran, open to all age groups.

 

Meanwhile two categories were competed in the MABIMS member countries. The Memorising of 10 Chapters of Al-Quran and Understanding the 8th Chapter category for 20 years and below, was won by Dayang Ainaa Zahirah bte Haji Abdul Manap from Brunei Darussalam. Awang Muhammad Hazri bin Hj Mohammad Hamzani, also from Brunei Darussalam won the Category of Memorising 30 Chapters of Al-Quran and Understanding of Chapter 22 for 13 years and below.

 

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented the prizes to the winners. In the National Final Al-Quran Memorisation and Understanding, the champion in Category 'A' received One thousand 500 dollars. The Category 'B' winner received two thousand dollars, while the Category 'C' winner won Two thousand 800 dollars. The Category 'D' champion won Three thousand 500 dollars and the Category 'E' winner received Five thousand dollars. The winners also received trophies and certificates.

 

Meanwhile, the country's winners in the National Level of Al-Quran Memorisation and Understanding for MABIMS member Countries for the Category of Memorising and Understanding 10 Chapters of Al-Quran for 20 years and below received Four thousand dollars. Second place went to a participant from Malaysia, Iffah binti Abdul Rahim, who received Three thousand dollars, while participant from Singapore, Muhammad Nurdarwis bin Anuar in third and received Two thousand dollars.

 

Meanwhile, winners for the Category of Memorising and Understanding 30 Chapters of Al-Quran for 30 year-old and below received Seven thousand dollars. The participant from Malaysia in second, Nur Amalina binti Azharuddin, received Five thousand dollars and in third, Khobirul Amru from the Republic of Indonesia brough home Four thousand dollars. The winners also received trophies and certificates. Doa selamat was read by the State Mufti.

 

With the theme "Al-Quran Temanku, Menceriakan Hidupku", this year's Nuzul Al-Quran celebration was organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs with the cooperation of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence as well as a combination of the country's three Islamic Financial Institutions namely Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam BIBD, Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei TAIB, and Takaful Brunei Darussalam. The Nuzul Al-Quran is a historic and very important date for the Muslim nation or ummah. As such, His Majesty once called for Major Islamic events to be celebrated and glorified because it was part of the Islamic historic events itself.
