106th International Labour Conference

GENEVA
The 106th International Labour Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland discussed pertinent labour and employment issues related to the challenges of governance in light of labour migration. The conference also focussed on the final revisions to the Employment (Transition from War to Peace) Recommendation (No. 71), the abrogation of out-dated International Labour Organisation instruments as well as other issues.
Brunei Darussalam was represented by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs. During the plenary session of the conference, Yang Berhormat Pehin applauded the International Labour Organisation's efforts in promoting the need for systematic collection and harmonization of labour migration statistics to counter data deficits on labour migration trends. At the same time, the International Labour Organisation has fully recognises the important function of employment generation, enterprise creation and entrepreneurship training in recovering livelihoods and promoting peace, recovery and resilience in the aftermath of crisis and disasters.
The country's delegation also included His Excellency Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Mahdi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Awang Haji Abdul Rahman, the Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to Geneva. On the sideline of the conference, Yang Berhormat Pehin also met with the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Singapore. During the meeting, both Ministers had mutually exchanged best practices on skills development in the context of manpower and employment.
