One thousand and 70 female youths took part in the Nationwide Youth Al-Quran Tadarus Gathering Ceremony at the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital. Gracing the ceremony was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah binti His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah.

Upon arrival, Her Royal Highness was greeted by Datin Hajah Kalsom binti Haji Suhaili, the wife of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Datin Norlela bin Haji Abdul Jalil, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The function began with a reading of the Surah Al-Fatihah by Dayangku Amal Zahirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri, Champion of the National Youth Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran 2017.  The function was followed by the reading of Khatam Al-Qur'an led by Dayangku Nur Fatin Wahidah  binti Pengiran Haji Md Salihin, a student of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute.  The function was held to glorify the month of Ramadan with beneficial contents especially in reading of the Quran and also to encourage youths in religious activities.

Apart from the aim of enhancing understanding and assimilation of the practise of reading al-Quran in this blessed month, the function jointly organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports is also hoped to strengthen relations amongst youths.

The University Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, UNISSA, Takhtim Group read the tahtim. The doa khatam was read by Dayangku Zuhairah Amanina binti Pengiran Haji Zul Hasymi, a student of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute, followed by the Dikir Marhaban presented by the University Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, UNISSA Dikir Group.

To end the ceremony the Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam read by Dayangku Amal Zahirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri. Such a gathering is hoped to strengthen and portray the determination of the youths in efforts to realise the desire of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to produce an Al-Qur'an literate generation.
