SANDAKAN

Shell and MID Sabah Incorporated Sdn Bhd held the Shell Oil & Gas Showcase at the Jobs & You Resource Centre on June 15 and 16.

This event provided Shell an avenue to showcase its subsurface and deepwater technology for the people of Sandakan. It was also to create awareness about the oil and gas industry to the young generations and the public.

Jobs & You Resource Centre is located at Block 47, 2nd Floor, Lot 3C–3D, Bangunan SINUKA, Jalan Leila, 90000 Sandakan.

MID Sabah Incorporated Sdn Bhd (a government-linked company under the Sabah Ministry of Industry Development (MID), aims to bring more helpful information into the centre to share with the Sandakan community.

The centre is a place to share Sabah’s industry information to the students and general public, hopefully to guide the young generation in the building up of their career pathway.

It always welcomes the participation of industry players to come and share their knowledge with the community. Hence, it will create a sharing platform for the employers and employees to understand each other to create better mutual understanding in the industry.

Students from SMK Datuk Pengiran Galpam, SM Sung Siew and SMK St Michael’s joined in the event on June 15 and 16.

From the feedback of the students, most of them learned a lot about the latest deepwater technology from Shell and became more knowledgeable about the oil and gas industry development in Sabah.

From the interview feedback obtained from the participants, most of them liked the human resource career building talk by Shell which gave them information on how to prepare themselves in building up their own career pathway.

The showcase of the three-day event was the Shell Virtual Reality (VR) goggles which showed illustrations of the Malikai platform. All the participants favoured the VR goggles as they felt as if they were on the platform themselves.

Also present at the event was Sabah Shell general manager Ian Lim   who said that Shell’s presence in Sabah continued to grow with its involvement now in deepwater opportunities through the Gumusut-Kakap and Malikai deepwater operations.

“With this stronger presence, we will continue to build the capability of Sabah oil and gas industry, in line with the Sabah government’s vision of building local capability and talent. Through this event we are also hoping to spark interest in STEM among students and consider opportunities to be future innovators who will progress Malaysia’s future with cleaner energy solutions.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, who also heads the Ministry of Industrial Development, for giving us this great opportunity to share about Shell’s deepwater technology with the people of Sandakan,” said Lim.
