The National Disaster Exercise generally aims to update the Standard Operating Procedure in disaster management, by taking into account the knowledge gathered from the ASEAN Regional Disaster Emergency Response Simulation Exercise, ARDEX-16 held in the country last year. The Director of the National Disaster Management Centre, NDMC, said the exercise also aims to further develop the Incident Control System to ensure effective coordination, flow of order and control, as well as cooperation among government and non-government agencies in disaster management. Retired Colonel Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said was speaking during the exercise launching ceremony this morning.
The NDMC Director added that through the exercise, the integrated effort and collaboration of various agencies could be strengthened and upgraded. This is apart from offering the opportunity to identify the capability of the existing disaster operating assets. At the same time, all those involved will know the country's capacity in carrying out the whole-of-nation approach at tackling natural and man-made disasters.
The exercise scenario is based on the country's disaster management scenario and landscapes to test the solidarity of those involved in tackling cross-sectoral disaster issues, and see the extent of the agencies' understanding of the disaster management concept, the coordination mechanism and the communication network. Also present was Retired Lieutenant Colonel Awang Yahya bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Director of Fire and Rescue.
