The International Day against Abuse and Distribution of Illicit Drugs is celebrated every 26th of June. All United Nations member countries including Brunei Darussalam celebrated the day with the theme 'Listen First'. The theme was selected as an initiative to raise support in drug abuse prevention based on science and an effective investment for the well-being of the children, family and society.
The Narcotics Control Bureau celebrated the international day by organising a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony participated by residents of Pusat Al Islah. The ceremony ran concurrently with Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration. Present was Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @Maidin, the Deputy State Mufti.
At the ceremony, a book entitled 'At Taqwa' was launched. The book was produced by the At Tarbiyyah Unit and fully published by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam. The book is a basic guidance book on spiritual teaching for the residents of Pusat Al-Islah who are undergoing rehabilitation that focusses on fardu ain, fardu kifayah and sunat practises as well as other daily religious practises.
