Islam encourages its followers to help one another for any good cause. One of the means to implement the mutual help concept is by giving alms. Giving alms is commendable in Islam. In our society, alms-giving can also mean offer of donation or contribution. In this regard, Youth Converts of the Islamic Dakwah Centre held a "Ramadan Free Market", with the aim of nurturing the spirit of giving among the community especially during the month of Ramadhan when religious deeds receive multiple rewards.
Ramadan Free Market with the concept of "Giving and Taking for Free" was officiated by Awang Abdul Aziz bin Haji Abdul Kahar, the Acting Assistant Director of Islamic Dakwah Centre. More than 20 contributors donated clotheswear and accessories, home decorative items, food and other daily essentials. According to Awang Muhammad Samira Razin bin Abdullah Sambat, the Head of the Islamic Dakwah Centre Youth Converts, Ramadan Free Market was introduced to help reduce the burden of those in need in preparing for the Hari Raya festivity. It's an initiative whereby those in need including orphans, underprivileged families and young converts can get and take home the things they need for free from the market.
