The Ministry of Science and Technology has opened one more fuel quality checkpoint at the Lao-Vietnamese International Nam Kan Border crossing in XiengKhuang Province to ensure imported fuel meets required standards.

A ceremony to officiate the checks took place on Jun 21 in the presence of the Minister of Science and Technology Boviengkham Vongdara, XiengKhuang Governor Somkot Mangnormek and representatives from relevant sectors and petroleum companies.

The Ministry of Science and Technology began to check fuel sold and distributed in the country in August 2016,with the first fuel quality checks installed at the 1st Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge in Vientiane Capital, according to Acting Director General of the Standardisation and Metrology Department Viengthong Vongthavilay.

To date, the ministry’s Standardisation and Metrology Departmenthas been running fuel quality checks at 13 border checkpoints nationwide. These include the recently opened checkpoint at the International Nam Kan Border crossing.

The department also offersa hotline number 1513,through which petroleum companies, consumers and members of the general public can ask questions about fuel quality.
