By the command of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddien Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the country will start celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri this Monday.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs as President of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council late this evening met to confirm the result of the sighting of the new moon of Syawal held at several locations in the country. The result was then presented for His Majesty's consent. The function was held at Dewan Multaqa, Annex of the ministry. Also present were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Education and Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. The announcement was made earlier this evening over Radio and Television Brunei.

The delegation assigned to sight the new moon of Syawal 1438 Hijrah comprising Syarie court judges and Shari'ah Court officers, State Legal Department, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Survey Department, Ministry of Development as well as State Mufti Department. They were at DST Tower, DST Headquarters Building, Tungku Highway and Bukit Agok, Jerudong in the Brunei Muara District; Bukit Ambog in the Tutong District and Bukit Lumut in the Belait District. Also present at the DST Tower was Yang berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, Minister of Development.
