Bruneian Sentenced to 4 Months' Imprisonment for a Theft

 April 27th, 2016  |  05:11 AM  |   3400 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A forty-four-year-old local man was yesterday sentenced to four months' jail after he pleaded guilty in the Bandar Magistrate's Court to theft.

The defendant, Jeludin bin Haji Tiga, stole a water pressure unit, a drill and a tool box from a car parked at Aero Jaya Sdn Bhd in Kampong Salambigar.

The car owner had gone to perform Friday prayers at the Salambigar Mosque at lpm on April 22, 2016, Magistrate Pengiran Shahyzul bin Pengiran Abdul Rahman heard.

DPP Dayangku Hazirah binti Pengiran Yusof further informed the court that the defendant claimed to have parked his car in same area to perform Friday prayers. However, as soon as he saw the driver of the other car, parked next to him, leaving to perform prayers, the defendant's intentions changed. He then waited until the Friday prayers had started.

The surrounding area was quiet. The defendant noticed the car's window was left slightly open and used this option to unlock the door and steal the items.

All of the defendant's actions were captured on Aero Jaya Building's CCTV camera, which was used to aid investigations after the victim lodged a police report.

During investigations upon his arrest, the defendant said he committed the offence to take revenge on the car owner for unsatisfactory refrigerator repair services.
