A local man was yesterday sentenced to three years' jail and three strokes of cane for the unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor girl whom he had come to have a sexual relationship with.

The thirty-two-year-old defendant, Zulhilmi bin Ahad, a former school bus driver, first met Miss X sometime in April 2013, through a fellow bus driver, and had kept in touch with her since, often seeing her after school hours.

At noon, sometime in May 2013, Zulhilmi fetched Miss X from school and brought her to a rest house in the Kiulap area, for sex.

On the second occasion, sometime in December 2013, he drove his school bus over to Miss X's house at noontime, to have sex with her.

It was in January 2014 that Miss X learnt that she was pregnant. She gave birth to a baby boy later that year, in September.

DPP Zuraidah Sidek informed these facts of the case in court.

Magistrate Azrimah binti Abdul Rahman took into account the consent from Miss X in the course of offence committed by the defendant, however, highlighted Miss X's vulnerable age.
