The 4th Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS-4) Corridor Towns Development Project Inception Workshop was held on Jun 27 in Vientiane Capital and attended by Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport Vilaykham Phosalath, representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the provinces, and relevant officials.

Discussions at the meeting focused on the preparation of the 4th Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS-4) Corridor Towns Development Project, which is designed to support the government of Laos in enhancing the competitiveness of towns located along the main economic corridors in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS).

The government will develop Paksan district in Bolikhamxay and Thakhek district in Khammouane as two GMS-4 Corridor towns with an investment of USD 60 million.

This development project is co-financed by the ADB (US$ 45 million), ASEAN Infrastructure Fund (US$ 10 million) and the Lao government (US$ 5 million).

​The project is designed to result in improved urban services in the participating towns through investment in basic urban infrastructure including, among others, sanitation, solid waste management, urban roads and flood management.

The project will enhance climate resilience and will be in line with ADB's 3Es of economy, environment, and equity, as outlined in its Urban Operational Plan.
