KAMPUNG MASIN

Electrical kitchen appliances have been donated to Masin Secondary School. The equipment for the use of the school's Pre-vocational Programme students were donated yesterday by Sabli Food Industries as part of the company's corporate social responsibilities.

The donation was presented by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Abdul Hamid alias Haji Sabli bin Haji Arsad, Member of the Legislative Council who is the Chairman of Sabli Group of Companies to Awang Ivan Moore, the Principal of Masin Secondary School. In May, five Pre-vocational Programme students, two homeroom teachers and a relief teacher from the school completed a 12-week Cake, Biscuit and Pastry Making Course at the Sabli Pastry Shop at Kampung Limau Manis Small Industries Complex. In an interview with RTB, Yang Berhormat hoped the students would one day become entrepreneurs and that other parties such as non-government organisations NGOs, the private sector and businesses would assist them.

The Pre-vocational Programme was started by the Ministry of Education at selected government secondary schools and colleges in 1999. So far 28 government secondary schools and colleges in the four districts have implemented the programme. The programme uses the living skills approach in assisting and training students with moderate cognitive abilities to become self-reliant or independent in daily life.
