Building Inspectors, Businessman in Court Over Bribery Charges

Two building inspectors and a businessman were produced in the Magistrate's Court to face bribery charges.

 

The case has been adjourned to May 25 for the defendants to consider their pleas.

 

The charges which surfaced from investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau allege that the planning inspectors at the Town and Country Planning Department, Ministry of Development, Zamri bin Haji Jaludin and Pengiran Haji Baharuddin bin Pengiran Haji Md Tahir, corruptly accepted $90 cash from the Executive Director of Maju Motors Sendirian Berhad, Chan Key Hong, as an inducement for forbearing to continue to conduct a thorough inspection at Maju Motors Sendirian Berhad for the purpose of renewal of its workshop certification on August 30, 2011.

 

Chan Key Hong is charged with corruptly giving the cash to the public servants.

 

Zamri and Pengiran Haji Baharuddin are also facing a charge of accepting the cash from Chan Key Hong.

 

Chan Key Hong also faces a charge of abetting the two planning inspectors.

 

Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Kefli released the defendants on a bail of BND$10,000, or two local sureties.

 

DPP Zuraidah Sidek prosecuted the case.
