The capabilities of military personnel in Brunei's armed forces are vital to the country's defence mechanism, said His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in a titah yesterday.

His Majesty, who is also the Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), was delivering the titah on the occasion of the Sovereign's Parade ceremony for newly commissioned RBAF Cadet Officers.

Also in attendance during the ceremony was His Royal Highness Lieutenant Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

A total of 34 Officer Cadets were commissioned during the ceremony at the new Defence Academy RBAF in Kampong Tanah Jambu, after undergoing 52 weeks of military training.

The newly commissioned officers include an Officer Cadet holding a Doctorate in Medicine and two Officer Cadets who are qualified dentists.

Before officially commissioning the cadets, His Majesty reminded them to be constantly aware of the geo-strategic and geo-economic developments, to allow for more effective decision-making strategies in the country's defence policies.

His Majesty also expressed his confidence in the ability of the newly commissioned officers to lead their subordinates by example, in addition to demonstrating high levels of discipline and exemplary behaviour while performing duties in service to their country.

Touching on the subject of the recent relocation of the Defence Academy RBAF from the Sungai Akar Camp to Kampong Tanah Jambu, His Majesty said that the modern infrastructure was a huge investment made by the government for the development of human resource capacity in the country's armed forces.

"It also intended to boost the Defence Academy's stature at both national and international levels,"
said His Majesty.

His Majesty then went on to express his hope for the new Defence Academy to attain recognition as an outstanding military training centre, both locally and abroad.

Earlier in the titah, His Majesty called yesterday's ceremony a historical occasion, being the first Sovereign's Parade for the Officer Cadet School (OCS) to take place on the grounds of the new Defence Academy RBAF.

"The OCS has a significant role in training, educating and mentoring Cadet Officers. The training is specifically geared towards producing skilled and capable military leaders who can bear their responsibilities well, and are also able to take on future challenges," said His Majesty.
