Laos Reaffirms Commitment To Sustainable Development Goals

Laos reaffirmed at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable development in New York, USA, Jul 17-19, its commitment to achieving sustainable development goals.

 

At the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongphan Savanphet who led the Lao delegation in attending the meeting informed the participants of the progress in implementing key sustainable development goals in Laos as well as the incorporation of the UN sustainable development goals into its 8th  National Socio-Economic Development Plan, and the approval of the national sustainable development goal 18:  Lives Safe from UXOs which is aimed at reducing the impact of unexploded ordnance and creating favourable conditions for development and improve the living conditions of people, as well as the establishment of the national steering committee on sustainable development goal implementation.

 

The Deputy Minister stressed the importance of strengthening comprehensive partnership to achieve national development goals by 2030.

 

Laos, along with other 43 countries, has registered with the United Nations to present its voluntary national report to inform the UN of its progress in the implementation of sustainable development goals at the national and sub-national levels in 2018.

 

Titled "Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world", the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development aimed to review in depth UN Goals including Goal 17: Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development, Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere, Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture, Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation, Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
