There’s an old saying that when one door closes another opens.

That certainly seems to be the case for the five-year-old girl who was fined £150 by a council for selling 50p cups of lemonade outside Lovebox Festival.

Instead of crushing her entrepreneurial dreams, the decision by Tower Hamlets council officers to fine the little girl seems to have expanded them.

Her dad, Andre Spicer, a business school professor, says that his daughter has been inundated with officers to open stalls at other festivals and events.

In a tweet, he said: ‘We have been overwhelmed by the kind response from people across the world.

‘Dozens of festivals, markets and businesses have offered us the opportunity to set up a lemonade stand.

‘We hope they will extend this invitation to others who’d love to make a stand.’

Those to get in touch include Borough Market and LeeFest.

The council has now cancelled the fine and apologised for what happened.

Tower Hamlets said in a statement: ‘We are very sorry that this has happened. We expect our enforcement officers to show common sense, and to use their powers sensibly. This clearly did not happen.

‘The fine will be cancelled immediately and we will be contacting Professor Spicer and his daughter to apologise.’
