Girl Guides Association Community Day Celebration

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah binti His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association yesterday graced the Association's 9th Community Day celebration. The event took place at the headquarters of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association in Kampung Anggerek Desa.
Upon arrival, Her Royal Highness was greeted by the co-advisors and chairperson of the event. Also in attendance was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah binti His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah. The reading of Surah Al-Fatihah was led by Dayang Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abdul Ghani, the Association's Spiritual Commissioner.
Dayang Hajah Siti Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim, Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association, in her welcoming speech among other matters touched on the association's development and expansion projects launched in January 2009. The contribution to the Earth Project which involves the planting of 92 types of vegetables and herbs has been well carried out.
Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah then presented the "Projek Jari-Jari Hijau" guide book to 6 secondary schools, colleges and sixth form centres. The "Jari Jari Hijau" project is in line with the informal education for Girl Guides and Ranger Girl Guide which involves mental, spiritual and energy challenges.
At the function, Her Royal Highness cut a birthday cake. The special prayer in conjunction with community day was read by Dayang Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abdul Ghani.
Her Royal Highness also viewed the exhibition put up by the association. The community day is one of the association's annual activities aimed at exposing and educating members to be more sensitive to the environment and concerned towards those who need help. With the motto "Siap Sedia" or "Be Prepared", such an activity is hoped to instill self-values, discipline and team work through projects and community activities.
Her Royal Highness then officiated the launch of "Jari Jari Hijau" project. The long-term and continuous project is the continuity of the contribution to the Earth Project which was launched and handled by members of the association. The project involved planting of flower plants, fruit trees and vegetables as well as herbs in small scale and organically. The project is carried out in stages and continues to be handle by the Girl Guides and Ranger Girl Guides from six selected schools. Sales from the production will be used for the association's expenses in the country and overseas.
Her Royal Highness' presence at the function portrayed her concern on the development of community projects handled and planned by members of the association. Among those present were Datin Paduka Hajah Zahrah binti Haji Idris and Datin Hajah Masni binti Haji Aji, Vice Presidents of the Association.
