KOTA KINABALU

AMC College is aiming to offer degree programmes which will be conducted fully in Sabah through a partnership with a leading university from the UK, said its chief executive officer Jeffrey Goh.

For the past two years, AMC has achieved strong collaboration with both local and foreign universities through its articulation agreement with distinguished universities such as the University of Wollongong and University of Canberra in Australia, as well as University of Wolverhampton, University of Sunderland, Anglia Ruskin University and Oxford Brookes University from the UK, Goh said.

“Students have the option to further their degree studies abroad at Year Two or Year Three of the degree programme.

“Moving ahead, AMC College aims to offer degree programmes that will be conducted fully in Sabah through a partnership collaboration with a leading UK university,” he announced at the second convocation ceremony of AMC College here yesterday.

According to Goh, AMC College’s collaboration with local universities such as Asia e-University (AeU), UCSI University as well as Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) presented more options for students to continue their degree locally.

Goh said AMC College has embarked on various initiatives aimed at better equipping the college for the future in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and changes in industry demands.

“In this respect AMC has, to date, signed a total of 84 corporate partnerships with leading organisations in Sabah such as Maybank, MK group and Sabah Net, to name a few.

“These partnerships provide internships for our students, scholarships and valuable insights for our academic team to better prepare our students for the work place,” he stressed.

Last year, Goh said, three students were awarded full scholarships for their Diploma in Accounting by Grandis Hotel, Graceworth Sdn Bhd and Globinaco Sdn Bhd.

This year, Sabah Net has provided two full scholarships for eligible candidates to pursue AMC’s Diploma in Computer Networking, he said.

On the other hand, Goh said AMC College’s Diploma in Computer Networking and Diploma in Accounting have received full accreditation status from the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).

“All other Diplomas have undergone the full accreditation exercise and we are awaiting the letter of confirmation for full accreditation status.

“This signifies the quality standard attained for all of our diplomas,” he said.

With this accreditation, graduates would be able to progress into degree programmes at local private and public universities as well as foreign universities abroad, Goh revealed.

“Their Diplomas are also recognised by the Public Commission of Malaysia (JPA) for work opportunities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (SEDA) chairman Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai, who graced the convocation ceremony, urged the graduates to adopt learning as a lifelong process.

Yee said graduating from AMC College was just the beginning of many milestones which he hoped the students would work hard for in their careers.

A total of 41 graduates received their scrolls at the convocation ceremony yesterday, including 28 students who graduated with Diploma in Computer Networking, nine students with Diploma in Accounting and four students with Diploma in Marketing.

The event also saw the presentation of the Best Student awards to Micheal Tai Soon Ann, Chan Kiat Sing, Lim Hsiu Ying for Diploma in Computer Networking, Steven Chen Chee Vui and Alexander Robert for Diploma in Accounting, and Su Haozhe for Diploma in Marketing.

Five students were also awarded with the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), namely Choo Boo Ann, Yong Wei Zheng, Sean Ngoh, Chong Zhi Guo and Chong Ka Lok.

Also present at the event were AMC College founder cum MK Group managing director Dr Lawrence Chu and AMC College executive director Dr Cannye Chung.
