Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and members of his delegation are on a three-day study visit to Melbourne, followed by another trip to Hobart, Tasmania.
The chief minister and his delegation comprising senior state government and university officials will be in Hobart until Saturday before flying home.
Soon upon arrival in the morning they went to Tasmanian state hydro power company, Entura, where they were briefed on the development of hydro dams and production of electricity in Tasmania.
Entura owns and operates 30 hydro power stations and 55 major dams to produce about 2,300MW of renewable power and provides employment to about 1,000 people.
The excess power is sold to mainland Australia via a 290km undersea cable across the Bass Strait to Victoria State.
Later, members of the delegation visited the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Hobart to gain insights into scientific research work conducted by the organisation.
In the evening they attended a dinner hosted by the State Government of Tasmania.
