Japanese Minister To Visit Laos

VIENTIANE, LAOS

 

Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida will pay a working visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on May 4-5.

 

The visit aims to further strengthen the friendly relations between Laos and Japan, the Department of Asia Pacific and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an announcement on Thursday.

 

The following is Mr Fumio Kishida’s biography:  

 

Date of birth: July 29, 1957

 

1982 - Graduated from the School of Law, Waseda University, Joined Long-Term Credit Bank of Japan, Ltd.

 

1987- Secretary to a member of the House of Representatives

 

1993-Elected to the House of Representatives for the first time (40th General Election) (Elected eight times as of present)

 

1999-Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Construction (2nd Obuchi Cabinet)

 

2000- Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Construction (Mori Cabinet)

 

2001 - Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Koizumi Cabinet)

 

2005 - Chairman of the Committee on Health, Labour and Welfare of the House of Representatives

 

2007 - Minister of State for Special Missions (1st Abe Cabinet), (Okinawa and Northern Territories Affairs, Quality-of-Life Policy, "Challenge Again" Initiative, Science and Technology Policy, and Regulatory Reform), Minister of State for Special Missions (Fukuda Cabinet), (Okinawa and Northern Territories Affairs, Science and Technology Policy, Quality-of-Life Policy and Regulatory Reform)
