His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifudien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohammed Alam, this afternoon received in separate audiences and junjung ziarah the country's intending haj pilgrims. The audiences took place this afternoon at Istana Nurul Iman.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam received junjung ziarah from the intending male haj pilgrims.
Also attending the ceremony was His Majesty's son, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.
This year, one thousand Brunei intending pilgrims will perform the fifth pillar of Islam. Out of the total, 477 are male intending haj pilgrims and 523 are female. The increasing number of the country's haj pilgrims this year is made possible after His Majesty's government and the Saudi Arabian government of agreed to increase the Brunei Darussalam haj quota.
His Majesty's government has authorised three companies to conduct haj management services this year, namely the Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad, Straits Central Agencies Brunei Sendirian Berhad and Raudah Al-Amin Sendirian Berhad. The Brunei intending pilgrims will depart for Medina in four flights. The first flight is scheduled to depart on the 10th of August, while the second flight will leave the next day and the third and fourth flights will leave on the 13th and 14th of August respectively.
At another part of the Istana, Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri received junjung ziarah from the female intending haj pilgrims. Also present was Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab-Rahaman.
Before departing for the holy land, the intending haj pilgrims have underwent 10 sessions of haj courses as preparation for them. The course is a requirement made by the Saudi Arabian Haj and Umrah Ministry that every country needs to equip intending pilgrims with knowledge on how to perform the Haj correctly.
As the fifth pillar of Islam, performing the haj is obligatory for every Muslim who is absolutely able financially, as well as in terms of health and fitness. In order to become the guest of Allah, intending pilgrims have to make big sacrifices not only in the aspect of material but also in leaving family members and relatives entirely in fulfilling the religious call to perform the haj.
