Legoland Retires A Tiny Prince Phillip Figure From Its Buckingham Palace Display

Happy retirement, tiny Philip (Picture: Legoland)

The repercussions of Prince Philip’s retirement from royal duties are being felt in ways that you couldn’t imagine.

To mark the occasion, Legoland has retired a tiny 10cm figure of the Duke of Edinburgh from its Lego display of Buckingham Palace.

But first, one important tweak had to be made – the addition of Philip’s now famous bowler hat that he wore for his last public engagement, a meeting with Royal Marines in the grounds of the palace.

An even tinier Lego hat was placed in the tiny Duke’s Lego hand – and workers even added a ‘Gone Fishing’ sign on the gate of Miniland’s Buckingham Palace.

A Legoland spokeswoman said: ‘The Queen and Prince Philip visited our miniature LEGO Buckingham Palace in Miniland back in 2003, so we thought it was only right to wish the Duke of Edinburgh a very happy retirement by marking the occasion in Miniland in our own LEGOLAND way.’

The 96-year-old Duke may still accompany the Queen to certain events from time to time, but his own diary of royal engagements will end.

His decision to retire was not medically related and was fully supported by his wife.
