JAKARTA

The Jambi administration will speed up the construction of the Muarasabak Port in East Tanjung Jabung regency and the Depati Parbo Airport in Kerinci regency with the support of the Transportation Ministry.

Jambi Governor Zumi Zola recently met Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi where the latter promised to help realize the construction of both projects, Zumi said on Saturday.

For the construction of Muarasabak Port, the Jambi administration has coordinated with state-owned port operator Pelindo II, which owns a 200 hectare plot of land earmarked for the project, and publicly listed sea transportation services firm PT Samudera Indonesia, the governor said.

“The water and electricity, as well as the dock, are all available. We have set a budget of Rp 3.5 billion [US$262,683] to dredge the land belonging to Pelindo II,” he said.

Zumi said the Jambi Transportation Agency had conducted the required environmental impact analysis.

The land, stretching some 12 miles along the coast, will be dredged for water channels. The cost is estimated at Rp 120 billion.

For the acquisition of a 30 hectare land plot for the Depati Parbo Airport, the Jambi administration and the Transportation Ministry will allocate Rp 15 billion each.

“We hope the disbursement of the budget will not be postponed so that we can finish the land acquisition this year and start the expansion project for the airport in 2018,” Zumi said. (ecn/bbs)
