JDT's S. Kunalan Warns of Kedah Threat, Targets FA Cup Glory

JDT's S. Kunalan is confident his side can overturn the 2-1 deficit when they entertain Kedah at Larkin on Saturday.

Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) are well rested and ready to overturn a 2-1 deficit against Kedah in the Malaysia FA Cup semifinals, according to JDT's Malaysia full-back S. Kunalan.

The Southern Tigers host the 2015 Malaysia Cup finalists at Larkin Stadium on Saturday, just three days after a 2-1 victory in the AFC Cup over Ayeyewady United in Myanmar.

However, the generous size of the JDT squad gave coach Mario Gomez the chance to rest some of their biggest stars, allowing a core of players in Malaysia to prepare for the showdown against Kedah.

"It's good that everything seems to be falling into place for the big game against Kedah," Kunalan told The Star.

"Coach Mario has been rotating the players for the domestic and AFC Cup competitions. So, there is a good balance in the team."

With a strike force of Argentine and local forwards, JDT have scored 53 goals in their last 19 matches. But Kunalan admitted that the visitors also posed a danger in the attacking third of the field.

"We have learned our lesson from the 2-1 defeat in Alor Setar," Kunalan said. "Kedah's foreign strikers, Sandro Da Silva and Carlos Kahe, are skillful and fast,"

Kunalan is aiming to lift his second FA Cup after winning it with Negri Sembilan in 2010.

JDT have advanced to the Round of 16 in the AFC Cup with the maximum 15 points from five straight wins, in Group H.
