New Pass With Two-Day Unlimited City Rail Travel For Games Visitors

KUALA LUMPUR

Worry-free and convenient: Nancy and Mohd Nadzmi at the launch of the new travel pass.

Foreigners and locals flying in for the 29th SEA Games can opt to get two days of unlimited city train rides with their airport transfer rail tickets.

The new enhanced KL TravelPass allows passengers to use the KLIA Express Rail Link (ERL) to KL Sentral and enjoy free unlimited travel on the LRT, MRT and Monorail for two days.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the cards were launched just in time for the Games, which start this weekend.

“I believe the pass will be popular among visitors who can travel as much as they want without worrying about queuing or setting aside loose change to buy tokens for the trains.

“They are similar to the Oyster Card in London and the Octopus Card in Hong Kong, and can be topped up and used as regular Touch ‘n Go cards once the two days are over,” she said at the launch of the new travel pass yesterday.

The previous version of the KL TravelPass, used since 2015, only had RM10 value for use on trains and RapidKL buses.

ERL executive chairman Tan Sri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh said the cards would encourage tourists coming to Kuala Lumpur to travel beyond the places they had planned for.

“This will promote tourist attractions not just here but in the Greater Klang Valley because of the extensive public transport network,” he said.

Both Nancy and Mohd Nadzmi said travel on buses and other train networks like the KTM Komuter could be included in the KL TravelPass in the future.

For now, passengers can choose to buy a single KL TravelPass for RM70 or a return one for RM115, both of which must be used within a month of purchase. The cards can be purchased at the KLIA Express ticket counters in KLIA, KLIA2 and at the departure hall in KL Sentral.
